The Human Rights Network (HRN) member organizations call on the justice institutions to immediately investigate the case of the graffiti written in the courtyard of the University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina” calling for the murder of LGBTIQ+ persons.

Such writing which calls for murder must be urgently investigated and the perpetrators should be given meritorious punishments based on the law. Acts that call for murder and hate speech which are also openly conducted in the spaces of public institutions create unsafety, a sense of fear, anxiety and (re)traumatization for LGBTIQ+ persons and simultaneously, are a direct threat to the community and the entire society.

Calls for murder like the most recent one indicate a great presence of hatred in our society, which is often encouraged by politicians and the highest representatives of the state, and such calls incite further violence and hatred.

HRN calls on state institutions to raise citizens’ awareness about LGBTIQ+ people and their rights and provide security and appropriate assistance. The failure to properly address these cases normalizes violence and hatred towards LGBTIQ+ people.

The member organizations of the Human Rights Network (HRN) will closely monitor the justice institutions regarding the actions that will be taken to investigate and punish the perpetrator of this crime.
